Serenity Funeral Home: Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Steve Ward

Etowah, TN - On January 27, 2022, our community mourned the loss of a truly remarkable individual, Steven (Steve) Dierk Ward, who left an indelible mark on those around him. A devoted husband, father, friend, and servant of God, Steve's life was a testament to his unwavering passion for music, family, and community.

Born in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and raised in Guymon, Oklahoma, Steve's love for music was evident from a young age. Under the guidance of his renowned band director father, he was named first chair French Horn in the Oklahoma All-State Band four times during high school. This talent did not go unnoticed, as Steve went on to play the French horn with the Lee University Wind Ensemble and Athens Community Band, even traveling to London for New Year's Day celebrations.

Music was more than just a hobby for Steve; it was his passion and greatest talent. He served his church faithfully, leading music and sharing his gift with others. His love for music extended beyond his personal life, as he coached his sons and many other young players in Dixie Youth Baseball for 22 years, winning two Tennessee state titles.

Steve's contributions to the community went far beyond his musical talents. He was a dedicated servant of God, serving as pastor of Christian Covenant Church in McMinn County from 1986 until his passing. His commitment to his faith and family was unwavering, and he leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and guide those who knew him.

Steve's love for education and community service was another defining aspect of his life. He served as Treasurer of the Tennessee Home Education Association from 1998 until his death and co-founded the Middle East TN Home Education Association with his wife, serving as Area Coordinator from 1995-1999.

In addition to his many accomplishments, Steve's love for golf and membership at Ridgewood Golf Club were a source of joy in his life. His family was always his top priority, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Harry Vernon Ward and Margaret Harper Ward Quinn, as well as his daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Brewer Ward. He leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and guide those who knew him.
